About Burkholder's Fabric

Gina and Nancy assumed ownership of Burkholder’s in January 2006. Respecting its Lancaster County tradition and history, they retained the original name of the business, but added their own touch: Where Quilters Gather … signaling a new direction for the old shop.

Their goal is to bring to you the very best in fabrics and accessories at affordable Lancaster County prices … without sacrificing the service found in the finest shops across the country. To achieve this goal, they continually restock Burkholder’s Fabrics with the finest and most current collections available and have put together a top on-site team to provide you with the personal service and attention you deserve.

The Owners

Gina and Nancy moved to Lancaster County, PA several years ago from Washington, D.C. and Washington State, respectively. They began quilting together almost four years ago and, while both were delighted with the low prices and the number of fabric stores in the Lancaster area, they missed the ambience and the level of service they were used to in the areas they had moved from. After three years of ‘road trips’ outside the area to find “real quilt shops,” they decided to open their own shop and were well into developing a comprehensive business plan when they were given the opportunity to buy a well-established fabric shop at the northern tip of Lancaster County.

Located deep amid the cornfields and silos of the rolling Lancaster countryside, Burkholder’s had been serving the varied fabric needs of Lancaster, Lebanon and Berks Counties for over thirty years. Gina and Nancy knew the shop well and saw in its 5000 square feet and variety of fabric the core of the quilt shop they dreamed of developing.

Gina and Nancy assumed ownership of the shop on January 9, 2006. Respecting its history, they retained the original name of the business, but added to it their own business name signaling the direction they hoped to take their new shop: Where Quilters Gather.

Our Philosophy

Gina and Nancy are committed to providing the quilters of south-central PA and beyond with not only a wide selection of first quality fabric, but also the personal service and attention experienced in the finest quilt shops around the country … all at Lancaster County prices.

About the Staff

Gina and Nancy recognize that their helpful and friendly staff is the backbone of their business. AJ (short for Alta Jane) and Lorraine expertly and efficiently run the store during the daytime hours, with Renee and Georganne overseeing the evening shift. In addition, AJ manages the notions department and personally handles the large number of customer orders that are called in from loyal quilting customers all over the country. Lorraine is almost single-handedly responsible for the neat appearance and cleanliness of the shop … a fact that is particularly noted and appreciated by the men who accompany their wives to the shop and sit comfortably in the “gentlemen’s chairs” provided at the front of the shop.

Capri, in the meantime, tries to bring order to chaos by effectively and efficiently managing the back office functions, including receiving the new fabrics, books, patterns and notions that arrive daily.

Assisting these key staff members are part-timers Kendra, Georganne, Cherie and Bethany, all of whom are committed to providing excellent and gracious service with a smile.
