Blooming Nine Patch
We really love the Blooming 9 Patch (BNP), and there’s much to love about this quilt. The design is simplicity itself: alternating plain blocks with 9 patches set on point. Yet, your end result is a beautiful, dramatic quilt that literally blooms before your eyes. The key to the success of the BNP is fabric Selection. Large busy prints and large flowery prints work well. Join us and share in the thrill of creative discovery; we’ll have fun and learn. Once you make one BNP, you’ll definitely want to make more. Book is required. Don’t forget to bring a sack lunch!

Betty Neff – 2_Day Workshop: Blended Quilts
You’ll need to forget many things you have learned about quilt making and look with fresh eyes! For the blended technique, your fabric selection has unique combinations. Piecing is very simple and straight forward. All blended quilts are scrap quilts. We begin by studying the unique quilts of the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. But these earlier quilts have little resemblance to the quilts we are about to create! Please bring a sack lunch to eat during our break!

Double Wedding Ring
John Flynn, a quilter/designer/teacher/author from Montana, has devised a unique contemporary approach to piecing the traditional Double Wedding Ring. His method eliminates the cutting of all those “little” pieces for the arcs. I’ll show you how he does it and some of my techniques for efficient rotary cutting, accurate strip piecing, matching seams, binding, and a surprise method of finishing that is so-o-o-o much easier! Be sure to bring a sack lunch!

Quilt As You Go!
Does quilting “as-you-go” appeal to your? The quilt-as-you-go approach enables today’s busy quilt maker to quilt a piece in smaller quilted segments, and then put those segments together to complete a quilt. When done properly these methods will not show from the front and can add interesting design detail to the quilt back. Quilting smaller units by hand or machine keeps the work in manageable sizes and facilitates the quilting process. The time and effort required to assemble the pre-quilted units is certainly far less than the time needed for quilting in the traditional way.

Invisible Machine Applique, “Olla”
Using a supplied original pattern, students will learn to create an appliquéd piece on the sewing machine that emulates fine hand appliqué. The first part of the class will cover fabric selection and preparation of the pieces; the second will cover the application of the pieces by machine and how to make the ruched flowers on the sample. Personal tips will be shared with lots of hands-on assistance! Your project can become an instant heirloom wall hanging or can be used as a pillow. The technique is not difficult, but patience and attention to detail are required. Its fun to see the “ta-da” look as the pattern takes on its own life in each student’s particular choise of fabrics. There will be a 30-40 minute in-store break for lunch, so please remember to bring your lunch!
